The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Sana\u2019a Capital Secretariat participated in an expanded meeting chaired by H.E. Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment, Mr. Sam Ahmed Al-Bashiri, with the presence of Vice Chairman of the Chamber and Vice President of the Federation of Yemeni Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Mohammed Mohammed Salah, along with major importers and companies specialized in baby food production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting discussed mechanisms for activating \u201ccontract manufacturing\u201d as a strategic approach to strengthen local industry and localize production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Held at the General Authority for Investment and attended by Engineer Mohammed Al-Furza\u2019i, Deputy Head of the Authority, the meeting reviewed the experience of Al-Mutatawera Food Industries Company (AFICO), the only facility in Yemen specialized in baby food production and certified with the international GMP quality standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Minister of Economy proposed the \u201ccontract manufacturing\u201d initiative, which aims to transform importers into local manufacturers by utilizing available production lines in domestic factories. Under this model, companies would produce their own branded products locally according to required technical specifications and quality standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To encourage this direction, the Minister announced a package of incentives, including a five-year tax exemption on profits for local manufacturing investors, customs exemptions of up to 75% on production inputs and raw materials, as well as technical and logistical support to ensure compliance with international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Importers and traders expressed readiness to study the proposal, emphasizing the importance of reviewing quality standards and the technical capabilities of local factories to ensure compliance with international specifications and agreements with foreign parent companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting concluded by stressing that this initiative aims to revive struggling national factories, preserve employment opportunities, and reduce foreign currency import bills, thereby supporting the national economy under current challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Amira Al-Mabrazi, Executive Director of the factory, stated that the facility has strong production capabilities aligned with international standards, enhancing its competitiveness against imported products despite operational challenges that have partially affected production continuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
